A new flat has been hunted and captured! It even has a big, bright kitchen and loads of sweet food shops close by. I think it's going to be lovely. I can now slowly return to my online home now that my next physical residence has been secured.
But it will be a slow return because of course, now I have to pack, bribe people to help us carry loads of boxes down and then up many, many (many) stairs and do all of the other boring and tedious tasks that coincide with moving. This leaves me little time to have any interesting thoughts about food. But here is some news in brief:
- I (very casually) stalked Alan Cumming in the grocery store the other day. He had numerous bulging carrier bags filled with organic products. He also shops in a dark hoodie decorated with big purple stars. It looks like he has probably had it since he was just a wee drama student. The hood was pulled up even though it was actually, properly hot that day. This is the only reason I even looked at him. He looked ridiculously overdressed - like a child star trying to be incognito but instead just making a desperate plea for recognition. I don't believe that's what he wanted, although when I made eye contact he did give me a sly "you know you know who I am" smirk. In the grocery store he looked at the cleaning supplies/toiletries section and then left without making a purchase. Maybe because everything there was boring, or maybe because he actually stole something instead! Remember, he was wearing a hoodie.
- My friend just got a job at Moro. How fucking cool is that? I don't know exactly what she'll be doing. I don't think she does either. Probably the jobs the newest chef does in a kitchen. Like cleaning the grout in the floor tiles and hulling 1.8 million poppy seeds. Next time I'm in London I'm making a booking on a day she's at work so I can sneak into the kitchen. I'm sure that'll be just fine with everyone.
- I am getting very good at molding things out of marzipan. Pictures demonstrating my abilities will soon follow.
But now I will direct you back to the image at the top of this post. It was taken at The Ship Inn in Irvine where Mair and I stopped for dinner after a bike ride. I ordered the leek and pork bangers and mash and Mair opted for smoked haddock smothered in many kids of melted cheese and topped with a puff pastry crescent. Nice. But all of the dishes also came with four sides. Do you see how many potato products are on that table? Really? How ridiculous is that? Try to count them all. There's a trick one. Please also note the mushy peas and steamed turnip. While I would recommend this pub if you are ever in Irvine (nice beach!) I will never recommend these vegetables.
It's so nice to have you do all of the research for us. It makes our decision making so much easier!! Thanks.
