I've broken in my new kitchen; a cake was made. A small citrus one, glazed too soon out of the oven, served to friends visiting us for the first time in our new home.
I'd like to think I could throw together a meal in the most basic settings, but to bake I need to be a bit more settled. I need staples, and bowls and tins. I need to start a relationship with my oven, learning what it does quickly and when it lingers. A cake on the counter, about to be cut up as warm cups are passed around and levels of milk and sugar are adjusted means that the kitchen is mine.
And of course that my friends have something to have with their tea.
It's so nice to have you do all of the research for us. It makes our decision making so much easier!! Thanks.

As we approach the end of our kitchen reno, your thoughts on how one leans into a new kitchen are so apt....i know how the dimensions of the kitchen are set. where the fridge, oven, cook top and sink will be. how many cupboards, drawers and other places to stash our stuff...
but the real test will be when it's finished and one then begins to use the space and get a sense for how all the various machines work together. it will be an exciting fall as we see if all the plans fall into place...big hugs
