Did you know that last week I started and saved three posts that I was sure I would be able to finish and publish, thus not leaving a monstrous gap in this blog during my move? Well, that didn't happen exactly. Moving house was exhausting and mildly traumatic and I barely thought about food at all. I lived off an embarrassing amount of paired with diary products in one form or another. A lot of boring pasta and cheese on toast. A few peas and some fruit to prevent scurvy. Nothing else to write home about. I couldn't even finish writing those posts. My brain was only filled with van rentals, leases, security deposits and phone line installation.
But now, safely moved, we are slowly demolishing the barricades of boxes and revealing a functional space. The kitchen is pretty much up and running once a few storage issues are sorted out. I seasoned our new cast iron frying pan last night. I'm bringing packed lunches to work once more. My breakfast is looking far healthier and tastier than the stale pastries I had been grabbing at the train station. Balance is resuming. Phew.
I'm really sorry that it's been a bit stale around here for a while. I'm going to repent, though. While we are still waiting for broadband to be set up, it should happen by the end of next week. And when that day comes:
I will post every day for two weeks! At least!
In the meantime, here's a picture I meant to post weeks ago, pre-chaos. I had spent an evening making this:
That's right. Tomatoes, cucumber, cabbages and sausages all made from marzipan and arranged on a sugar cube base. It was destined for the top of a cake for the wedding of two dear and lovely people who were getting hitched in Berlin. I couldn't go, so I sent this instead. I hear it graced the top of a pink cake (there were 40 cakes in all! That's a wedding with it's priorities straight!) and that the guests ate *all* of it, even the sugar cubes. While I was pleased that people liked it, I couldn't help but think about the mass amount of artificial colouring I used and how much I had to manipulate all the little shapes. E numbers and sticky fingers. Delicious. I'm sure they were drunk and unconcerned with such matters.
See you soon! xk
It's so nice to have you do all of the research for us. It makes our decision making so much easier!! Thanks.
