There are just enough greengage plums on that set of scales to make two and a half jars of jam. Runny and sticky, half a jar gone only four days later.
They are sitting on one of the stools I found at the Salvation Army. It has a twin who has had a bit less sun in its life and so whose green velvet seat is just a bit darker.
Also in the bowl of the scales, with the plums, on top of the stool, are some new napkins I've sewn for our dinner. They are part of a set of eight long rectangles, each with its own dimensions and angles. I’ve had the fabric for a few months now and the desire to turn them into napkins for almost as long and just accomplishing something non-essential on my endless list of desirable activities makes many more things seem possible. It makes the days seem longer.
That shadow to the right are the oven mitts sent over to us by my mom. She wanted to get some that were big enough for both of us, and these ones are lengthy enough to skim my armpits when I wear them. Probably good, considering how often I'm covered in burns.
There's also the radiator that never seemed to be off. It was just warm every time I grazed it with my hand. Anywhere else in the Northern hemisphere it would be intolerable to have an additional source of heat in the house, but in Glasgow it was sort of comforting. And although the thrifty and resource-conscious part of me was relieved when J figured out how to fix it, another part of me was chilled. We'll turn it back on soon enough.
It's so nice to have you do all of the research for us. It makes our decision making so much easier!! Thanks.
